Recycled Jewelry or “Eco Fashion Art”

The terms like “Eco Fashion” or “Recycled Jewelry” or “Recycled Gifts” can mean completely different things to different people. Recently, I asked a few friends what it means to them. The answers were all over the place. Some of them thought of it as eco friendly fashion accessories (bingo!), some others thought it to be a marketing gimmick and believed that there is nothing called recycled or green in fashion world while some others kept wondering what it means.

Most people take discussions around topics like “global warming” or “going green” very seriously (and rightly so!). But the funny part is that hardly anyone does anything to make any difference. Of course, no one is to be blamed since the above mentioned terms are either too generic or too big for us to solve. Now think about the little differences we can make to “greenify” our daily lives. I will not bring up the usual stuff about saving energy, using lesser electricity, gas etc. All these things are very important but there is plenty of material available out there. Our school of thought is making “green living” fashionable. What if all our fashion accessories are eco friendly and yet they are beautiful and affordable.

A lot of companies & organizations focus on making big change in our lifestyle to promote eco friendly living. At Terra Trendz, we are trying to promote the same concept but on smaller scale. We believe that small changes have significant impacts. Just imagine the difference made if every woman wanting to make a fashion statement switches to an eco friendly version of jewelry or bag.

Let’s admit it. Most of us cannot resist buying jewelry or bag or something little for your home every now and then. I am sure none of us thinks about any major environmental impact with such small decisions. How would you feel if you are not paid for the work you do or your talent is significantly under paid. That's exactly what happens with a lot of hardworking artists around the world when they are treated unfairly. Thank god we have Fairtrade Foundation . This is an organization that ensures this injustice does not continue. Of course, this is an over simplified definition of Fairtrade. These days a lot of retailers are adapting Fairtrade products and kudos to them. When we came across this concept at Terra Trendz, we loved it since the idea resembled our values. We strive to have at least 20-30% of our handbags & jewelry to be fairtrade.

What is Terra Trendz?

Its been a long time that we updated anything on our blog. I am not a great writer but I thought let me put some thoughts together and take a fresh approach introducing ourselves to our readers, followers, customers & friends.

We are a bunch of friends that strongly believed in making a difference in an area which is a little unconventional. Let me explain. Most of us have heard about using green technology for power conservation, preservation of natural resources etc. While we believe in ALL of these, we thought of using this concept in areas of style, fashion & home. Let's be honest, most of us are addicted to buying our fashion accessories more often than any other non-essential item. Having said that, if we ask a simple question to ourselves..."Can I make a lil difference being concious is what I am buying". In other words, there are certain fashion accessories that most of us end up buying....no matter what the environmental or socio economic impact is. No one asks one self.. "Can this stylish accessory be replaced by an equivalent alternative that causes less harm to nature or rather is produced in a way that might benefit some others"....Sounds stupid right? Well not really. We surveyed 80 friends (& friends of friends ) to find an answer. Surprisingly enough, while no one thought about the question stated above, 72% of them said they would love to buy an alternative fashion accessory if it doesnt compromise on style or looks.

The result of survey was an eye opener and the idea of Terra Trendz was born :)... Like a typical small business, we struggled for funding, awareness, investors, finding right vendors etc. I dont mean to bore you guys with these details but in the end we got a green, fashionable & socially concious website going. We feature everything from natural handbags & fairtrade handbags to recycled glass jewelry & clay jewelry .

What do we believe in?

We are open minded individuals constantly looking for vendors, artists and free lancers who are environmentally & socially concious. As simple as that :) We strive hard to constantly look for chic looking fashion & home accessories which are not only "green" but also look hot :)
